Many parents opt to reward their child with a special treat – a little “goody” for peeing on the potty. If you’d like to do the same, keep in mind that the reward has to be something your child likes – a lot.
If your child likes chocolate, as most do, try giving a Hershey’s Kiss. It’s small enough that you’re not filling his belly with a lot of sugar or “junk”, yet it’s effective.
Whatever you choose to use as reward, just be sure it’s something you have on hand and can give the instant your child pees on the potty. He certainly isn’t going to wait for his reward, nor should he have to. Remember, children live in the moment.
Make sure your child understands that just sitting on the potty does not constitute getting an award – and stick to your decision! If you give in, you’ll sabotage yourself – and your child!
